San Jacinto College South talent recognized at Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

San Jacinto College student Zach Cagle of Pearland demonstrates his talent in improvisation during a workshop, hosted by Massive Improv of Houston. The theater department at SJC South recently hosted the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, which included workshops on such topics as improvisation and voiceovers.
HOUSTON – The San Jacinto College South (SJCS) theater department recently hosted the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and took home awards for their rendition of “The Arabian Nights” by Mary Zimmerman.
The four-day festival included the performance and critique of six on-stage productions by SJCS, Lone Star College-Montgomery, Tarrant County College Southeast, Angelo State University, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and Lone Star College-Kingwood. Students also participated in workshops on such topics as improvisation and voiceovers.
Dr. Katie Robinson, director of the School of Arts and Humanities at Pennsylvania State University, served as this year’s respondent and selected “The Arabian Nights” by SJCS and “Eurydice” by SHSU to represent Texas at the regional level, which includes the six-state area of Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
SJC students Daniel Bourque, Luke Lee and Micklo Soria were also recognized for their talents and will travel to Amarillo for the Regional VI Festival for to audition for acting scholarships.

- Daniel Bourque, Luke Lee and Micklo Soria: Advance to the Regional VI level to audition for an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship
