PASADENA, Texas – Based on the recommendation of Deer Park area branch manager, Joe Lopez, The Grainger Foundation recently donated $5,000 in scholarships to San Jacinto College (SJC) students enrolled in automotive technology or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) programs.
The donation falls in line with the company’s commitment to help meet the demand for skilled workers while supporting the increasing technical demands of today’s manufacturing workplace. SJC instructors selected scholarship recipients based on need and academic performance.
“Grainger shares a common passion with San Jacinto College to help raise the visibility of the skilled labor shortage and promote technical education in Texas and nationwide,” Lopez said. “We work every day with customers who depend on the skilled workforce, so we understand how this shortage will affect their business, and we want to help.”
Grainger, a Fortune 500 company, has been a part of the Texas business community for more than 75 years and currently operates 10 locations throughout the Houston metropolitan area.
“We appreciate this donation from The Grainger Foundation,” said Susan Arscott, vice president of resource development for San Jacinto College. “Working with faculty in the selection process ensured that Grainger’s scholarship funds were awarded to students worthy of the recognition and assistance.”
