San Jacinto College to offer free certified manufacturing production technician training
PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College received a $465,589 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to offer free training to those who qualify to become a certified manufacturing production technician (CPT).
The training is part of the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) and is a Community-Based Job Training (CBJT) grant designed to support work force training for high-growth, high-demand industries. The nationally recognized MSSC program enables workers to build the knowledge and skills required to receive their MSCC CPT certification and work in advanced manufacturing facilities.
“The initiatives supported by this grant target the work force development needs of the energy and construction industries,” said Craig Zimmerman, director for applied technology in San Jacinto College’s Continuing and Professional Development (CPD) division. “In spite of high salaries, and due to industry expansion, product demand, changing technologies, and work force retirement trends, there is a shortage of qualified energy and construction workers in our region, and this training will help to fill those needs.”
Training will consist of four skill modules: safety, quality control and continuous improvement, manufacturing process and production, and maintenance awareness. The training program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 2, 2010 through May 25, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day, and will be held at the San Jacinto College South campus located at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. Anyone interested in the training should call 281-922-3440 for more information.
